Jump with me to this correlation. I've been stripping a bathroom vanity -- refinishing, if that verb takes you better places. I'm pretty sure it's been in this old house at least 40 years. As I've removed layer upon layer of paint, I've thought ab...

Hmmm, I've never considered change, comfort and convenience as bedfellows. I think the true measure of the legitimacy of change is whether things are made better in some measurable way. As creatures of habit we humans resist change because it tend...

Including blogs, wikis and other web 2.0 tools in writing curriculum

"The prevalence of blogs, wikis, and social-networking web sites has changed the way students learn to write, according to the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) --and schools must adapt in turn by developing new modes of writing, designing new curricula to support these models, and creating plans for teaching these curricula." Something to think about.

Techy Tips for Not So Techy Teachers

Another awesome site I found through Delicious....Techy Tips for Not So Techy Teachers It has several great, and easy, projects for teachers of all technology skill levels. The only "problem" is that it's done by a British author and so he spells words such as "labour" with the by adding the pretentious "U." Enjoy.

Respect and Love from Seth Godin (2 elements of a great presenter)

Found this blog post via Delicious and I thought it applied to great teaching, too.

"The two elements of a great presenter

1. Respect (from the audience)

@Kelly Lock: I think it's a huge celebration for us to see how many students were able to enter college. It's a testimony to our staff and their parents that they all had such great ambition and fortitude to get it done. Now we must figure out a w...

@Melissa Corey Yes, there is a process, but we haven't really shaken out the bugs. We need to examine the process and see how we can make it work.

@Michael Gier: Yes, I think we need to do a better job of profiling. Right now, we just need a process to get what is probably WAAAY out of control in hand. I think we are on the right track to limiting how long absent/late work is accepted. I thi...

I knew the numbers of students enrolled in college would be higher this year, and I think it will go up. I've talked to five kids in the last week who said they took this semester off and are planning on enrolling this spring or in the fall; I sup...

Let me begin with the good stuff. My kids are reading, and they are reading a lot! I've set the goal of 800 pages (for an A) for 2nd quarter. I've been rather excited to see the kids serious about reaching that goal. Some of my most at risk reader...
