Transforming School Culture - A Book Study Club

We know that to improve our school, the change has to come from us, and it has to be an ongoing and integral part of the climate and culture of our school.

One of the downfalls with many waves of educational reform seems to deal with the "sticking-to-it" aspect. A school or district tries a… Continue

Give Twitter a Fighting Chance...OR..How to Become a Twittering Teacher

I am SO eating the most delicious nachos right now.

MU rocks the hizz-ouse!!

Yes, I have to admit that originally I thought the above statements were the purpose of Twitter. Similarly, I thought, "What an incredible waste of my precious time."

Oh, how a year has changed my attitude.

I didn't forsee that my fellow tweeters (or tweeples) would become an integral part of my personal learning network. In 140 characters or less, people from around the globe bombard me with valuabl… Continue

Bitstrip 101

Today in our session we learned how to use bitstrips.

Joanna could use this type of technology when she teaches students about taxes next week by allowing students to come up with cartoons based on the problems associated with taxes. She thinks this would be a engaging way for students to learn about a somewhat bland topic.

Barbara could use the bitstrips to analyze and evaluate text features to clarify the meaning of Imagery in a passage. The students ha… Continue

I don't mind helping with the cooking. I get to interact with lots of kids that way. They seem to want to see me (or rather the hot dogs that I've helped cook). I will have to leave a little early tomorrow because I have to watch the west gate so I won't be able to help with the clean up like I did last time. That took some extra time and a lot of people had already left. We need to all help with that. See you all at the meeting tonight.

Erin, regarding the moon walk, my neighbor, shannon johnson, a former BHS grad, has two inflatables that I know he would love to set up for a tailgate. He has one with a slide and basketball hoop in it and the other one is a regular moon bounce. Let me know if and when you might want to schedule him and i'll see how much he charges.

A fun fact about me is that I have a Bachelor's Degree in Therapeutic Leisure Management and was an Activity Director in a nursing home before I went back to pursue my dream to teach.

I might have to check out the Y. I will need a lot of work. I haven't swam since I was a kid and I could never swim a straight line. I am really thinking I need to start doing it though because it is so much better on your joints. I have a bum ankle :(

I know what you mean about the swimming and biking. I'm wondering if there is an indoor pool anywhere in St. Joe. Do you know?

Let me begin with the good stuff. My kids are reading, and they are reading a lot! I've set the goal of 800 pages (for an A) for 2nd quarter. I've been rather excited to see the kids serious about reaching that goal. Some of my most at risk reader...
